Clear, Concise Acetone Wash Procedure
MATERIALS

Acetone
Denatured alcohol
Electric stove
Glass beaker
Coffee filters

PROCESS

Crush product thoroughly for maximum effectiveness. Recommended to use a minimum of 1 gram of product. Understand that you will lose some some percentage of product in the process, even if original product was 100% pure.
Place product in the glass container. Pyrex is preferred, as it can withstand direct heat without breaking. Do not attempt to use a container made of anything that is not glass.
Pour enough acetone on product to fully cover the product in the container. Use acetone purchased from the hardware store. Beauty supply acetone will suffice, but only if it is clearly labeled as pure acetone. Do not allow the acetone to be exposed to the open air for any longer than necessary, as it will undergo a chemical reaction that will partially convert it to water. Product is water-soluble, so greater volume of water will increase loss of product.
Swish container around gently for a minute or so.
Turn the stove burner on to the very lowest setting. DO NOT ATTEMPT TO USE GAS BURNER. Acetone is highly flammable. Keep area well ventilated and free from open flame. Place container on the burner. Product will begin to boil very quickly. Allow to simmer/boil for about a minute. Do not allow acetone to fully burn off. Remove container from heat.
Add just a few drops of denatured alcohol (ethanol), also available at hardware stores. Recommended to use an oral syringe. Do not use too much alcohol. Product is soluble in denatured alcohol. However, the small amount is helpful in breaking drown product. Swish contents around in glass container for 30 seconds or so.
Coffee filters should be prepared so that they rest inside another beaker, bowl, or similar container. Brown coffee filters are preferable because they have not been bleached, but white ones may suffice. Dump all contents of container into filter in one motion, so as to minimize residual product clinging to the inside of the container.
Finished product in coffee filter should be completely dry within minutes. Discard contents that passed through filter.

Post Quality Evaluations:
*Careful folks, in my neck of the woods this set up with some product would land a manufacturing charge.
Nice post to start a discussion thread off with. Well done!!

Re: Clear, Concise Acetone Wash Procedure
I should have been more clear. When I said don't allow it to be exposed to the open air for any longer than necessary, I was referring mainly to the remaining unused portion of acetone, not the acetone being used at the time. Exposing that amount is probably unavoidable. I'm not sure the process happens that quickly anyway, but I could be wrong.

I said "simmer/boil" because the volume of acetone is so small (provided a person is not washing some huge amount of product) that they are really the same thing. Boiling begins within seconds after heat is applied. Very little heat is necessary. Acetone could probably boil with less heat than it takes to warm your lips.

I didn't give specific times or temperatures because I do not have them. It just seemed me to me that the majority of the info I found on the subject was not written in a way that was clear, or even sensible in some cases. If you feel that my post will do more harm than good, I do not mind if you delete it.

Re: Clear, Concise Acetone Wash Procedure
Why exactly is the acetone being heated? wouldn't you expect to lose product by heating?

Do you think freezing the acetone before its filtered maybe a useful addition to the Tek?

Also this co-solvent thing with the ethanol whats going on there? helping meth (secondary amine) to get together with acetone (ketone) heated up cant be good.

*Be aware, in this area (US) this setup with any product will bring a manufacturing charge. In the local paper sometime ago was an article about hardware stores reporting certain items bought together.
