As shown inthefigure,the cooling water(which actsas heatsink) flow sfirstto absorber,extract sheat from absorberand heatextraction.Thisisknownasseries arrangement.Thisarrangementis advantageous as the required cooling water flow rate will be small and also by sending the cooling water first to the absorber, the condenser can be operated at a higher pressure top .It is also possible to have cooling water flowing parallelly to condenser and absorber, however, the cooling water requirement inthiscasewillbehigh. Arefrigerantpumpcirculatesliquidwaterinevaporatorand the water is sprayed onto evaporator tubes for good heat and mass transfer. Heater tubes(steam orhotwaterorhotoil)areimmersedinthestrongsolutionpoolof generatorforvapourgeneration. Pressure drops between evaporatorandabsorberand between generator and condenser are minimized, large sizedvapour lines are eliminated and air leakages can also bereduced due to less number of joints.Figure15.7showsasinglestagesystem ofsingledrum typeinwhichallthefour componentsarehousedinthesamevessel.The vessel is divided into high and low pressure sides by using a diaphragm.
