This has been a question I've wanted to ask for a while. It's hard to tell where people are from on this board, and I'd just honestly like to know if people here prefer an urban or a rural environment.I, myself, couldn't imagine living in the city. I mean, yeah, it's good for convenience sake, being a short distance away from most commodities, if the power is knocked out, it's generally turned back on fairly quickly (a storm 2 years ago blew my power out for more than a week), and other things I can't think of at the moment, but it comes with plenty of disadvantages as well.I'm originally from a small city in Western PA, and while living there I was almost mugged, witnessed drug deals, and my grandmother's bar was the victim of armed robbery (I lived in an apartment right upstairs). The noise outside at night was insane, I didn't have much room outside to play, and there was a streetlight directly outside my window, preventing me from sleeping easily. When I was 6, we moved to a small village of roughly 300 people and things were quieter, friendlier, and just generally more relaxing. Sure, we had to drive 10 miles or more to get to a store, but it was a nice existence. When I was 10, we moved to an old farm 6 miles outside of town. To me, this place is paradise. It's secluded, out closest neighbors are across rows and rows of corn, I was free to go out and explore the surrounding property (state game lands. NEVER go on a farmers property without their permission), and it's always quiet. A walk for people in the suburbs or a city is to go out, round a block, say hi to a neighbor or two, then be home within 15-20 minutes. A walk for me is a 4-6 mile excursion through back roads and forests, and if I see someone else, it usually turns into me walking and talking with them for a half-hour, discussing sports, hunting, or whatever else. I also don't have the general complaints about living out here. My internet is fast, I live about a mile from the nearest town, and my closest friend is right down the hill from me. All in all, I just prefer the quiet life out in the country.
