Benefits

"WOW! My kids LOVED Camp Pinnacle. There were so many things to do that they never stopped. This is a must-do experience for kids, especially in the world we live in today. What an opportunity to gain some freedom, independence and confidence." - The Rundell Family, Hendersonville, NC
Benefits That Last Beyond Summer...

Benefits kayak wavingAsk any of our four directors and they will tell you the best gift our parents ever gave us was camp! At camp, we gained a greater sense of self, grew in our self-confidence, and made friends we still know today. We can't think of a more powerful way to affect the next generation than Camp. That is why we've made camp our profession.
Kids today need camp more than any previous generation. They no longer get the opportunity to build character by walking to school two miles both ways uphill in a blizzard. (As Steve swears he did growing up in Texas!) The world has changed and though much of it's good, kids no longer have as many opportunities to build independence, resilience, spend time in nature, or engage in face-to-face communication. As we wonder whether our kids will be ready for the challenges of the 21st century, parents can rest assured that Camp Pinnacle provides unique opportunities for growth. We believe camp may be one of the most important investments you'll make in your child's future.
At Pinnacle, we have seven program goals that guide our staff in designing and delivering a unique camp experience:

To provide a physically and emotionally safe experience.
To become more confident, independent, and resilient.
To make friends and develop stronger social skills.
To acquire new skills in exciting outdoor activities that campers may not be able to fully participate in at home.
To learn from positive adult role models.
To thrive without electronics and digital media and gain an appreciation for the outdoors and its natural beauty.
To have fun!
These goals might sound familiar to you, and may reflect your own goals for your children. They are also the primary reasons why parents send their children to Camp Pinnacle.

It's a given that Camp Pinnacle will be a fun experience. Below are some of the many benefits we try to integrate into the Camp Pinnacle program.
Camp Pinnacle provides an environment where your child will learn 21st-century life skills (collaboration, teamwork, creativity, resilience, leadership, and communication.) These skills are more easily learned at camp than at home or in school.
21st Century Skills at Camp Pinnacle
Camp Pinnacle provides a Connection to the Outdoors and outdoor activities which is difficult for parents to duplicate. We want to get kids excited about being outdoors and want to build healthy habits that keep them outdoors through adulthood. Kids today spend on average 54 hours a week linked to digital devices. Much of this was time previous generations spent outdoors playing with peers. There are real consequences to "Nature Deficit Disorder" and the Research becomes more demonstrative every year.
Best Friends at Camp Pinnacle
The outdoor activities your child will learn at camp can provide a lifetime of fun and good health. Few people play a sport like soccer, lacrosse, or football beyond high school. The camp activities we teach are sports individuals can pursue well into their golden years.
Camp Pinnacle provides outstanding role models who reinforce parental values. Our campers get to know impressive young adults who do "the right thing.” Having a charismatic and talented person who takes the time to know, challenge, and believe in your child may be the most beneficial part of the camp experience. Read how we hire our Role Models here.
Camp Pinnacle provides opportunities to develop character and practice social skills. Recent research by Paul Tough in How Children Succeed demonstates that character and resilience are not innate traits but learned skills and happen to be better predictors of success than cognitive ability. Our outdoor activities help campers develop resilience, grit, character and good judgment.
The Camp Pinnacle experience builds self confidence and increases social competence. Success at camp transfers into life at home. Research by the University of New Hampshire on our sister camp Adventure Treks demonstrates conclusively the positive social achievement outcomes gained from our camp methodology. The same results were not found in other reputable programs.
Camp Pinnacle gives children a break from technology. Campers discover that they can have the time of their lives without technology. The joy and constant activity of a camp experience provides an important contrast to our digital lives at home. This can provide an important framework that gives kids better perspective as to how technology fits into their lives.
At Camp Pinnacle, children develop lifelong friendships with others from all over the country and around the world. Making a new group of friends teaches social skills and builds social confidence. Meeting children from different backgrounds and world views, makes our children richer by expanding their worlds beyond their friendships from home. The close community fostered at Camp Pinnacle helps friendships "stick." Having a supplemental peer group makes for a richer life.
Children who attend camp generally do better in college. Data from our sister camp Adventure Treks shows that our program graduates get into great colleges at a rate that far exceeds most excellent college-prep schools. Our former campers give our program much of the credit for their tremendous success in college.
Camper on the Pinnacle Jungle GymCamp Pinnacle provides a break for both parents and children. Camp gives parents the much needed opportunity to take a "breather" from the tough role of parenting. Parents can take a rare opportunity to pursue their own interests and spend valuable time together. Families find that this time apart can actually bring the family closer together.
Camp provides comfortable first steps away from home where your child can begin to develop the independence needed for future success.
A co-ed camp format makes summer planning easier for parents. Camp can also bring siblings closer together. They often get along much better at camp than they would at home.
Camp Pinnacle is a reward! Your children work hard the rest of the year. Camp provides a great reward that they will look forward to each year. At camp, kids have the time of their lives while everyone reaps the benefits of a growth filled experience!
Now we don't want to imply that simply by attending Camp Pinnacle your child will automatically be accepted to Harvard. We only have two weeks! We do think you will agree that Camp Pinnacle is a great building block for your child that yields benefits long beyond the camp session.
