The next morning, Camila woke up as confused as ever. After her eyes fluttered open, it took her a few moments to realize where she was. After remembering, she sat up and grew worried when Lauren was nowhere to be seen.

Anxiously, Camila quickly slid out of bed and hurried into the hallway. “Lo?” she called, tilting her head to the side and quickly padding into the living room. She couldn’t help but breathe a sigh of relief when she caught sight of Lauren in the kitchen.

“Good morning,” Camila hummed, smiling softly. She grew concerned when Lauren didn’t answer her. Instead, the green eyed girl continued to mumble something to herself and dig through the boxes she had spread across the floor.

“Lo?” Camila tilted her head to the side. “What is wrong?” she asked softly, reaching out and placing a hand on her girlfriend’s shoulder.

Lauren immediately jumped, whipping her head around and looking at the girl behind her. Camila flinched in return, taking a step backwards.

“I’m so stupid,” Lauren sighed, letting her shoulders drop as she turned back to the boxes. “I made cereal and I went to eat it, but guess what? We don’t even have a table. I didn’t even think to get a table,” she threw her hands down at her sides and huffed in frustration.

Camila couldn’t help but giggle, thinking that Lauren was ridiculously adorable when she got flustered over the smallest things. “It is no big deal,” Camila shrugged, moving closer to her girlfriend.

“Who forgets to get a table?” Lauren shook her head, rolling her eyes at her own stupidity.

“You,” Camila giggled, moving forwards and pulling the frustrated girl into a hug. “Who cares?” she said softly once they pulled away. Lauren simply shrugged.

“There’s just so much to do,” Lauren confessed, leaning back against the counter and running a hand through her hair.

“And we will do it,” Camila shrugged. “We have a lot of time, Lo. It is only….” she glanced at the clock. “Eight a.m.” she giggled, realizing just how early Lauren had gotten up.

“But first, cereal,” Camila nodded curtly, grabbing the box of Lucky Charms she had packed specifically for herself.

“Come on, Lo,” Camila pouted when she realized Lauren’s face was still staring down at the floor. “This is an adventure,” she smiled hopefully, using her free hand to grab Lauren’s. “Everything is going to be okay,” she reminded the girl, locking their pinkies together where Lauren’s tattoo was.

The green eyed girl glanced down at their connected fingers and sighed. Camila was right. “We can eat on the back porch?” Lauren offered, causing Camila to smile contently and grab her bowl of cereal.

“Grumpy pants,” Camila mumbled teasingly, earning a playful glare from her girlfriend. They pulled two of the plastic lawn chairs next to each other and sat down. What their house lacked in size, it made up for in landscape. The land behind their house extended out for miles, giving them a nice green yard and all the privacy they could ask for.

“I can hear the birds,” Camila said quietly, pointing to the trees that lined their yard. Lauren nodded with a mouthful of food, causing her girlfriend to giggle.

Once they finished breakfast, both girls immediately got to work on unpacking their boxes. It wasn’t Camila’s ideal way to spend the day, but she knew Lauren was eager to get it over with, so she didn’t complain.

Camila waited for Lauren to disappear down the hallway with a few of the boxes before she quickly retrieved the box she had marked with a small star. She slid it across the room, skidding to a stop in front of the fireplace.

The small girl paused for a moment, listening to make sure Lauren was busy in the other room. She smiled widely, practically tearing the box open and admiring the collection of drawings and paintings that she had packed tightly.

She pulled them out one by one, taking the time to scan each piece of artwork. With a soft smile, she began arranging them together.

When Lauren emerged from the hallway holding an empty box, she nearly choked on thin air. Camila smiled, turning around from where she had just hung the last painting and motioning to the wall above the fireplace.

“Surprise,” Camila giggled softly. “I knew you would not let me do it if I told you,” she admitted, biting her lip nervously. “But I like it.”

Camila knew Lauren was insecure about her work. Lauren always told her that a real artist was never satisfied with their pieces. But Camila was. She was more than satisfied. She loved Lauren’s art. It told her things that Lauren’s words couldn’t.

“If you do not like it I can take it down,” Camila added once she noticed the hesitant expression on her girlfriend’s face.

“No, I just,” Lauren shook her head, moving across the room and squeezing Camila’s shoulder. “It’s just weird,” she admitted. “Like… this is our home.”
