One way to classify instrumentsis to put them in groups by the range of music theinstruments can play. Another classification is to put themtogether by what they are made out of. However, the mostcommon method of grouping instruments is by how theyproduce sounds. The academic study of musicalinstruments is called organology.Woodwinds and brass (sometimes called the “wind”instruments), string, percussion, electric, and keyboard aretypes of instruments grouped according to how they aremade and the range of music and sounds they play.
