Twelve women gave birth prematurely. The overall case fatality rate was 32%, and included nine fetal deaths and one death in a neonate. Similar to observations in the 1998–1999 frankfurterassociated outbreak, the incubation period appeared to be shorter among three nonpregnant patients (11 to 19 days) than in six pregnant women (median 33 days). In the case control study, a standardized questionnaire addressing consumption history of >100 food items was administered to case-patients and controls matched by gestational age or age and underlying condition as appropriate.
