The present cascading tariff structure in Sri Lanka characterised by very high
import tariff on completely built automobiles (300 per cent) coupled with low
tariffs on car parts and components (5 to 10 per cent) has made local assembly of
certain models of automobiles highly profitable. Since 2006, four assembly plants
have been set up under the approval of the Ministry of Industry and Trade: Micro
Car Company (2006), Union Enterprise (2008), Universal Auto Assembly (2008)
and Frontier Automobile (2010). All these plants are fully locally owned, but
operate under licensing arrangements with car makers in China (Union Enterprise
and Frontier), Korea (Micro Car) and India (Frontier).

Các tầng hiện cơ cấu thuế Sri Lanka đặc trưng bởi rất cao
thuế nhập khẩu ô tô nguyên chiếc (300 phần trăm) kết hợp với thấp
thuế quan đối với phụ tùng xe hơi và linh kiện (5-10 phần trăm) đã thực hiện lắp ráp trong nước của
một số mô hình xe ô tô có lợi nhuận cao. Kể từ năm 2006, bốn nhà máy lắp ráp
đã được thành lập dưới sự chấp thuận của Bộ Công nghiệp và Thương mại: Micro
Công ty ô tô (2006), Hội Doanh nghiệp (2008), Universal Auto hội (2008)
và Frontier ô tô (2010). Tất cả các nhà máy đều được hoàn toàn địa phương sở hữu, nhưng
hoạt động theo các thỏa thuận cấp phép với các nhà sản xuất xe hơi ở Trung Quốc (Hội Doanh nghiệp
và Frontier), Hàn Quốc (Micro Car) và Ấn Độ (Frontier).
