The final part of my assignment is focus about South-North reconciliation. Over the years, passing through many presidency era of South Korea, we can recognize that the South Korea leader has been trying to reunion with the North Korea by many programs and summits over
decades. Since Park Chung Hee regime, he tried to set a joint inform for reunification with North Korea on July, 1972, and held Red Cross talks in Seoul and Pyongyang. In the next succeeded, president Chun Doo Hwan, in the movement of the United States and Japan in relationship with China and Soviet Union, Chun's government also accepted a "one nation, two system" reunification proposal of North Korea in 1980 which was met with a suggestion from the South to meet and prepare a unification constitution and government through a referendum. As a result, in September 1985, families from both sides of the border made cross visits to Seoul and Pyongyang in a historic event. The reunification program continued develop in Roh Tae Woo era. In 1990, North Korea accepted the proposal for exchange between the two Koreas, thereby the result was the high level discussion, cultural and sports exchange. In 1991, the two Koreas simultaneously became members of the UN. In the president's term of Kim Young Sam, the government also tried to executed the reconciliation activities, but with many unwanted aspects, things went better only in Kim Dae Jung regime. Kim Dae Jung delivered the "Sunshine Policy" plan, a series of efforts to reconcile with North Korea. This proposed in reunions of the separated families of the Korean War, and the summit talk with North Korean leader Kim Jong Il. For these efforts, Kim Dae Jung was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize in 2000. He has been the first and the only Korean leader who won the Nobel prize up to now. Despite of the terrorism in the United States in September 11st, 2001 which changed the view of the US to the North Korea and the attitude of uncooperative from North Korea since 2002 up to now, the big amount of efforts of South Korean leaders still shows the World that they always want to find a peaceful method in reunion and talks with the leaders of Pyongyang.
