In other words, performance transparency in a distributed environment assures that the system does not suffer from any performance degradation due to the distributed architecture and it will choose the most cost-effective strategy to execute a request. In a distributed environment, the distributed Query processor maps a data request into an ordered sequence of operations on local databases. In this context, the added complexity of fragmentation, allocation, and replication schemas is to be considered. The distributed Query processor has to take decision regarding the following issues:
o To perform a data request as to which fragment to access.
o If the fragment is replicated, which copy of the fragment to use.
o Which data location should be used to perform a data request?
