1.4 Differences with the Eco-indicator 95
The concept of working with standard Eco-indicators is not new. In the Eco-indicator 95 project this principle was introduced . The most important difference with the 95 version of the method is the much improved methodology for calculating the indicators and the expansion of the indicator lists.
The most important difference in the methodology is the much better scientific basis for the damage model and with that the much greater reliability. Next to this also the concept of the methodology has changed. In the Eco-indicator 95 we used a mixture of damage modelling and the Distance to Target approach. In the Eco-indicator 99 we no longer include the Distance to Target principle in our reasoning. In stead we have fully developed the damage approach (see also preface and chapter 5). Next to a better scientific basis, we made a number of other important improvements:
• much better and more explicit procedure for the weighting between the damage categories
• much better description and definition of the damage models
• thorough description and specification of the uncertainties and assumptions
• Inclusion of the fate (dispersion and degradation) of emissions in the environmental compartments

Khái niệm về làm việc với tiêu chuẩn Eco-chỉ số không phải là mới. Trong dự án Eco-chỉ số 95 nguyên tắc này đã được giới thiệu. Sự khác biệt quan trọng nhất với các phiên bản 95 của phương pháp này là phương pháp cải thiện nhiều cho việc tính toán các chỉ số và việc mở rộng danh mục chỉ số.
Sự khác biệt quan trọng nhất trong phương pháp này là cơ sở khoa học tốt hơn cho mô hình thiệt hại và rằng nhiều độ tin cậy cao hơn. Bên cạnh này cũng là khái niệm của phương pháp đã thay đổi. Trong Eco-chỉ số 95, chúng tôi đã sử dụng một hỗn hợp của mô hình thiệt hại và các cách tiếp cận Target. Trong Eco-chỉ số 99, chúng tôi không còn bao gồm các cách Target nguyên tắc trong lý luận của chúng tôi. Thay vì chúng ta đã phát triển đầy đủ các phương pháp tiếp cận thiệt hại (xem lời nói đầu và chương 5). Bên cạnh một cơ sở khoa học tốt hơn, chúng tôi đã thực hiện một số cải tiến quan trọng khác:
• Thủ tục tốt hơn và rõ ràng hơn cho các trọng số giữa thiệt hại xảy loại
• mô tả tốt hơn nhiều và định nghĩa của các mô hình thiệt hại
• mô tả kỹ lưỡng và đặc điểm kỹ thuật của sự không chắc chắn và các giả định
• Bao gồm của số phận (phân tán và suy thoái) của lượng khí thải ở các khoang môi trường
