Particulate MatterParticulate matter (characterized by flue gas weight loading), generally referred to as fly ash, is generated in and elutriated by the combustion process and must be removed from the effluent gases. The amount of particulate matter generated is somewhat dependent on the design and operation of the incinerator. If the combustion process is not complete, a sooty fly ash will result. The best way to control emissions of carbonaceous particulate is operation at temperatures sufficiently high to ensure complete combustion of these materials.
