Since the seminal work of Hahn et al. (1990) insupplier development, research in this domain hasbeen proliferating. Scholars have found that supplierdevelopment activities contribute positively to a supplier’s operational performance improvement and, inturn, to the buyer’s performance advantage (Krauseet al., 2007; Modi & Mabert, 2007; Prahinski & Benton, 2004; Wagner & Krause, 2009). Early researchdescribed supplier development as aiming to improvea supplier’s cost, quality, and delivery performance(Kotabe, Martin & Domoto, 2003; Krause et al., 2007;Watts & Hahn, 1993), but recently this descriptionhas broadened to include technology, new productdevelopment, and management systems (Choi &Choi, 2002; Sako, 2004; Wagner, 2010).
