Since BT was privatised in 1984, the company has invested more than 17,000 million euro. The focus of current investments is mainly on upgrading the local telephone network to digital technology and installing optical fibre cabling. Currently, about 64% of BT customers' lines are connected to digital exchanges, compared with 10% in 1988.
