Subcontractor may use the existing TBMs upon verified and satisfied by himself. Subcontractor
shall establish the other temporary benchmarks where required.
2 SAFETY PRECAUTIONS
Safety precautions throughout the piling operations shall be in accordance with all relevant
standards and local regulations.
The work shall be carried out in such a manner and at such times as to minimize noise and
disturbance as practical as possible.
Safety shall also include investigation of existing site for the presence of underground utilities,
water mains if any, ensuring site tidiness, and safety to any open excavations, bored holes, and
damage to adjacent structure if any.
3 MATERIAL
Piles shall be pre-stressed reinforced concrete spun pile with 400mm and 600mm in the diameter,
manufactured in accordance with JIS A5335, JIS A5373 and TCVN7888.
4 HANDLING AND STORAGE OF PILES
SUBCONTRACTOR shall strictly follow the pile manufacturer’s instruction of pile transportation,
storage and handling.
The method and sequence of lifting, handling, transporting, setting, storing and driving of piles
shall be such that the piles are not damaged. Only the designed lifting and support points shall
be used.
During transport and storage, piles shall be placed on adequate supports located under the lifting
points of the piles. Prior to storage piles, all piles shall be visually checked to confirm there is no
damage. All piles within a stock shall be in groups of same length and same diameter. Packing of
uniform thicknesses shall be provided between piles at the lifting points.
At all stages during driving and until incorporation in the superstructure the piles shall be
adequately supported and restrained by means of leaders, trestles, temporary supports and other
guide arrangements to maintain position and alignment and to prevent buckling, as required.
5 PILE DRIVING
SUBCONTRACTOR shall submit to CONTRACTOR for review and approval a written statement
describing the equipment, method of installation of piles, construction procedures and quality
control procedure.
5.1 Pile Driving Plant
Driving hammer shall have the capability of varying and controlling the level of energy and the ram
drop height.
The weight or power of the hammer shall be sufficient to produce a final penetration set as
specified by CONTRACTOR. In the case of single acting steam or compressed air hammers the
height of the drop shall not exceed 1.20m. Where double acting or diesel hammers are concerned
