Seongbuk Multicultural Food Festival was made to commemorate World Multicultural Day (May 21st), designated by the UN. A festival held in the area of Seongbuk-dong, a location where 31 different foreign embassies are located, the Seongbuk Multicultural Food Festival aims to increase the number of exchanges among the foreign residents in Korea and help understand the cultural diversities among different races, people and nations of the world through international food. The festival is differentiated with other food festivals in the point that it encourages the participation of foreign residents and married immigrants instead of restaurants or professional cooks, and the programs are made in connection with a number of cultural assets located in Seongbuk-dong, the location of the festival. The 4th annual Multicultural Food Festival held last year took place at Seongbukdong-gil, in which 20 different countries including Peru, Norway and India participated and showcased their traditional food, folk performances, and more to 50,000 local and foreign participants, making it a great success.
