Furthermore, if countries have a higher elderly proportion , the demand of healthcare will rise as older people are more prone to disease and illnesses by nature. Another problem is that young adults will have to sacrifice their time to look after their elderly relatives.
However, it is not impossible to tackle these problems . Firstly, governments need to enforce the later retirement policy and raise the state pension age. For example, retirement age raised to about 67 years old in France. At the same time , government should encourage people to have more children and immigration in order to boost the number of young adults in the future. With regards to the demand for healthcare service, governments of developed countries could play their part by supporting new medical research and health programmes which might allow the elderly to stay healthy and work longer.
