research projects and demonstration plants have focused on green algae. However, recent research from the group of Yasuo Yoshikuni at the Bio Architecture Lab in Berkeley, California suggests that brown macroalgae, commonly known as seaweeds, could be suitable feedstocks for biorefineries.
