Cai Mep International Terminal Co., Ltd. was established on January 26, 2007 as a joint venture between the Vietnam-based Saigon Port, Vietnam National Shipping Lines and APM Terminals BV. CMIT has been operating a large-scale, modern container terminal facility which is able to cater to large main line container vessels since March 2011.
The terminal which will be located strategically on the Cai Mep river in Ba Ria-Vung Tau Province, some 80 km from Ho Chi Minh City, offers its customers state-of-the-art container handling and IT equipment.
Providing a safe, secure and efficient cargo and vessel operation is of utmost importance to CMIT as this enables local importers and exporters efficient and reliable connectivity with the global markets.
The 600 meters of berth is equipped with 5 super post-Panamax gantry cranes which together with the RTG-based yard operation allows for an annual handling capacity of over 1.1 million TEUs.

Cai Mep International Terminal is looking for a high calibre and well qualified Chief Operating Officer; a member of CMIT’s Management team who will
Provide the leadership and direction for the complete operations, technical & IT functions of the Container Terminal. A key role is to ensure the highest productivity in the terminal and to provide excellent service both to the lines calling at the port as well as to internal customers of the functions. This position provides input for effective strategies for operating the terminal at optimal levels, within operating opportunities and constraints.
Be responsible for leading most of the major functions of the Port & to maintain and create safe working conditions while ensuring and maintaining a high productivity and cost efficient operation. Key member of the terminal management team and has a direct influence on the further growth and development of the facility.
Principle accountabilities of this position:
Provides the leadership and direction for the port operations and technical engineering activities
Establishes and implements current and long range goals, objectives, plans and policies of port operations, technical activities and expansion.
Establishes port operations as per plans, standards and procedures consistent with policies.
Define, develop & execute local strategies for the major functional departments of CMIT, in line with & contributing to the company vision & strategy, within the borders of business plan & budget. Manage the day to day operations of the reporting functions according to the agreed operating principles of the business & relationships with customers.
Takes a leading role in selection, negotiation & finalizing agreements with suppliers & customers & where appropriate be responsible for execution & maintenance of service levels as agreed.
Participates as a key member of any steering committee for new projects & initiatives & plays a leading role in defining project management strategies & is responsible for timely deliverables of project plans.
Provide a working strategy to the IT function & support & contribute to development in technology & systems as applicable to improve efficiencies in cost, productivity & customer service.
Ensure compliance with HSSE policies & procedures.
Deliver a level of service to customers that is equal to best international standards.
Enforce safe working practices and ensure lost time injuries are kept to a minimum.
Ensure a cost efficient operation in excess current best practices.
Liaise closely with shipping companies, customs agents, trucking companies, Customs, port authorities, and other statutory authorities to ensure that their requirements are met.
Liaise closely with vendors, suppliers, external consultants, etc to ensure that divergent deliverables are met as required by the terminal
Measure and monitor performance against critical criteria, policy and guidelines.
Responsible for setting and achieving the budget for the reporting functions.
Responsibility that all managers and labour in the operation are trained in best operation practices with regards to advanced operations strategies and new technology.
Achieve the Company’s and its customer’s expectations with regard to operational efficiency, productivity and reliability.
Ensure that the terminal adheres to AMPT world standards for container terminal operations.
Measure and monitor performance against critical criteria, policy and guidelines established by CMIT.
Liaise with labour unions (where applicable) and on behalf of CMIT take part in long-term contract negotiations with labour unions. Ensure industrial harmony with the workforce
Manage employee performance issues including training, appraisals, discipline and grievances.

Candidates who are experienced and strong leaders with assertiveness, high energy, deep sense of responsibility and excellent people skills.
The ideal candidate possesses:
Preferable a university degree in logistics, maritime and port, or process/industrial engineering or a marine qualification at least at Masters 1st Class level (where he has had command of a vessel)
Post graduate studies in Port and/or Terminal Management, or related business studies.
Minimum 10-12 years in operations management roles in container terminals.
At least 3 year experience would be in handling of technical issues & negotiations with third parties
A better than average understanding of the role of IT in a container terminal environment
Project management skills is essential
Understanding of the container shipping industry and an ability to relate with shipping company and other associated industry managers.
Good communication skills with the ability to communicate across the organisation.
Experience in cost and productivity optimisation through process optimisation, as well as design and implementation of new operation procedures.
Extensive understanding of modern terminal operations including the use of terminal operating systems
Excellent analytical skills
Extensive knowledge of CMIT operational practices.
Fluent in local language (where applicable) and English.
Experience in finance related matters, setting budgets and reporting against financial objectives.
Effective negotiation and conflict resolution skills.
Ability to provide leadership, obtain cooperation and assistance to meet objectives.
