Prolog does not have assignment statements in the same sense as imperative languages. They are simply not needed in most of the programming for
which Prolog was designed. The usefulness of assignment statements in imperative languages often depends on the capability of the programmer to control
the execution control flow of the code in which the assignment statement is
embedded. Because this type of control is not always possible in Prolog, such
statements are far less useful.
