The enthalpy change for the equatio

The enthalpy change for the equation showing ammonia dissociating into a nitrogen atom and three hydrogen atoms is equal to three times the average bond ethalpy of the NH bond (Why three?).
NH3(g)  N(g)  3H(g) H  3H(NH)
The equation is the sum of the three equations given in the problem, and by Hess's law (Section 6.6 of the text) the enthalpy change is just the sum of the enthalpies of the individual steps
