Dear Vo Trong Nghia,I am writing on behalf of Dr Gene Sherman AM, Executive Director and Chairman ofSherman Contemporary Art Foundation (SCAF), to invite you to be the Foundation’scommissioned architect for the 2016 Fugitive Structures architectural initiative.Sherman Contemporary Art Foundation (SCAF), established in 2008 under the ArtisticDirectorship of Dr Gene Sherman, is a philanthropic enterprise dedicated to providing aninnovative forum for contemporary art, architecture, and visual culture, presenting workby internationally renowned practitioners from Australia, the Asia-Pacific region and theMiddle East. The Foundation was built on Sherman Galleries 21 years of commercialexhibitions and artist representation (1986-2007).SCAF works closely with internationally renowned artists and architects in commissioningsite-specific installations, exhibitions and innovative built structures that energise andrespond to the Foundation's goal of advancing the field of contemporary visual practicethroughout our region.Fugitive Structures is an annual architectural pavilion commission initiated by SCAF inpartnership with leading architectural practice BVN (http://www.bvn.com.au). Commencingin 2013, Fugitive Structures has championed innovative, experimental and challengingarchitectural pursuits from within SCAF’s chosen region of focus - Australia, the Asia-Pacific region and the Middle East. The invitation-only commission has receivedwidespread acclaim from Australia's architectural community and internationally, with2013's Andrew Burns: Crescent House and 2014's AR-MA: Trifolium being cited asmodels for excellence within a burgeoning global field of artistically driven pavilionprojects.Fugitive Structures is a small-scale pavilion project housed within SCAF’s Zen Garden.Project partners BVN work with the chosen architects to deliver work of the highestcalibre and are generously assisted by committed project supporters ARUP, Urbis, InfinityConstructions and 360° Landscape Architects.
