Staff will provide an overview of their Schools Partnership Program, a unique education program in K-12 public schools.
Special Olympics Northern California provides athletic opportunities to children and adults with intellectual disabilities, instilling the confidence they need to succeed in life.
Ms. Catharine Domanski-DeVries is responsible for growing and expanding the Special Olympics Northern California and Nevada Schools Partnership Program. The Program is part of Special Olympics International's mission to provide sports training and competition opportunities for youth with intellectual disabilities. The Schools Partnership Program builds upon this mission by combining students with and without disabilities in activities that provide meaningful social engagement. Having served as a Special Olympics coach for ten years, it was easy for Ms. DeVries to see the value in the Schools Partnership Program. She has been involved with the program since its inception in 2007 and has provided critical leadership throughout its evolution, expansion, and standardization. As a result of her efforts, the Program now engages over 27,000 students with and without disabilities, ages 2-22, on school campuses throughout Northern California and Nevada.
Ms. Ali Everett recently joined Special Olympics Northern California and Nevada as the Senior Director of Schools Program Development. She is currently working on developing the Schools Partnership Program in Santa Clara County. Throughout her career, Ali has been very involved with organizations advocating for the rights of people with disabilities, including serving as a Government and Communications Intern at the National Organization for Disability in Washington, D.C. All graduated from Syracuse University in 2012, where she obtained a Juris Doctor with a certificate in Disability Law and Policy, a Master of Public Administration, and a Certificate of Advanced Study in Disability.
12:00 pm End of meeting; please depart with charter transportation for lunch in downtown Berkeley.
