Acne scarringIf treating acne isn’t good, it will appear scars on the skin. Scars make your skin less smooth and redness, it looks less aestheticWhat causes acne scars? When acne breakouts penetrate the skin deeply, they damage the skin and the tissue beneath it. As the acne clears, the body tries to repair this damage. During the healing process, the body produces collagen — a substance that gives the skin support. If the body produces too little or too much collagen, you will see a scar. There are 2 type of scar:- Depressed acne scars: If the body produces too little collagen, depressions or pits form as the skin heals. A dermatologist may refer to these scars as “atrophic” scars or use the name of the specific depressed scar: Boxcar, Icepick, Rolling- Raised acne scars: Sometimes the body produces too much collagen as it tries to heal the skin and underlying tissue. When this happens, a person develops a raised acne scar. The medical term for a raised scar is “hypertrophic.”Who gets acne scars? Some people are more likely to see scars when their acne clears. The risk increases when a person: Has inflammatory (swollen, reddish, and painful) acne, such as acne cysts and nodules. This type of acne tends to penetrate deep into the skin, which damages the skin. Delays or does not treat inflammatory acne. The longer a person has inflammatory acne, the greater the risk of scarring. Picks, squeezes, or pops acne. This increases inflammation, which increases the risk of scarring. Has a blood relative who developed acne scars. Genes play a large role. How to remove acne scars? In creating this plan, your dermatologist will consider many things, including scar types and where the scars appear on your body BEFORE treatment for acne scars begins. The treatments that a dermatologist may use to treaxt depressed acne scars include: Acne scar surgery: To perform acne scar surgery, a dermatologist may lift the scar. To obtain the best results, acne scar surgery is often followed by another treatment. Acne scar surgery, followed by injections: After surgery, dermatologists often treat raised scars with injections of corticosteroids, 5-FU, or interferon. Acne scar surgery, followed by radiation: Studies show that radiation can prevent raised scars from returning after acne scar surgery. However, some doctors do not recommend radiation treatment. Best for : Treating a few depressed scars. Raised scars that need more than injections. Resurfacing procedures: When a patient wants to diminish the appearance of widespread acne scarring, a dermatologist may recommend a resurfacing procedure. Resurfacing removes layers of skin, which allows the body to produce new skin cells.Dermatologists use the following resurfacing procedures to treat depressed acne scars: Laser therapyLasers and other light treatments can treat raised scars safely and effectively. Treatment with a pulsed dye laser (PDL) can help reduce the itch and pain, diminish color, and flatten a raised scar. Chemical peelingChemical peels are good treatments for acne scarring. Peels such as salicylic acid and TCA can help clear existing acne and lighten any hyperpigmentation due to scarring. Side effects are minimal and temporary Dermabrasion and Microdermabrasion: The dermatologist uses a handheld device that gently removes the top layer of skin. The difference between these two procedures is all about depth of penetration into the skin. Dermabrasion is much deeper procedure as it removes the skin down to the deeper collagen layer so the skin is fully resurfaced.Best for : Depressed acne scars that are not deep. Moreover, Laser therapy is used for treating Raised acne scars. Skin fillers: Dermatologists use fillers to safely and effectively plump depressed acne scars. A dermatologist may fill acne scars with collagen, the patient’s own fat, or another substance. Many fillers give us temporary results, which last between 6 and 18 months. Some fillers are permanent. Both temporary and permanent fillers have unique pros and cons. Best for: Treating a few depressed scars, but not icepick scars. Collagen-induction therapy: This treatment encourages your body to make more collagen. To perform this procedure, a dermatologist moves a sterile, handheld needle-studded roller across the depressed acne scars. This punctures your skin. As your skin heals, it produces collagen. It takes time to see the results, sometimes as long as 9 months.Best for: Shaping or reducing the edges of boxcar scars. Injections: Your dermatologist may recommend injecting medicine directly into the scars. This can soften and flatten raised scars.Steroid injections are good for improving nodular or raised scars, however you have to be careful because too much of any steroid can cause atrophy to the surrounding tissue. Best for: Painful, raised scars. Scar creams and gels, silicone: These products can help reduce the itch and discomfort as well as shrink, flatten, and fade raised scars.Silicone scar treatment in all forms (sheets, ointments, sticks) normalize collagen synthesis and breakdown, resulting in a softer and flatter scar.Best for : Reducing size and discomfort of raised scars.Natural remedies to remove Acne/Acne ScarsBesides the solution I mentioned above, natural remedies are people choice. Acne and acne scars prevention
You can prevent or reduce the development of acne scars by changing some daily habit.
• Eat healthily. Getting the proper amount of nutrients from whole grains, fruits, vegetables, and protein help your skin to regenerate faster and limit unnecessary oil production.
• Do not wash affected areas of skin more than twice a day. Frequent washing can irritate the skin and make symptoms worse.
• Don't try to "clean out" blackheads or burst the pimples. This can make them worse and cause permanent scarring.
• Get at least eight hours of sleep. It helps to relax your body as well as detoxify it. If you aren't getting enough sleep, chances are your skin hasn't had the time or ability to renew its skin cells.
• Completely remove make-up before going to bed. Avoid using too much make-up and cosmetics.
• Wash your hair regularly and try to avoid letting your hair fall across your face.
• Always protect your skin from the sun. Ultraviolet rays from the sun stimulate pigment-producing skin cells, which can worsen the appearance of acne scars.
• Drink lots of water. Although we've all heard to drink eight glasses of water a day, there isn't a set amount on how much water you should consume.
• Exercisere gularly . Exercising help reduce your acne. It releases endorphins which lower stress levels and therefore reduce oil-production, and also makes you sweat which cleans out dead skin cells.
