This updated model of the storied M167 self-propelled howitzer was developed and fielded in the early 2010s. Extensive improvements have resulted in what is essentially an entirely new weapon system. Upgrades to the turret include increased armor protection for the main gun, ammunition storage, crew and a fully automated breach loading mechanism. An entirely new suite of electronics boasts an EMP shield, a fully networked file-control system, on-board ballistics computer and GPS aided self-location & navigation system. The system is capable of acquiring an azimuth reference, aligning to target, loading and putting a round downrange in under 30 seconds.
