DHF have started building capacity in HIA across the organisation through the Health Promotion Strategy Unit. It is not envisaged that DHF will conduct HIAs, however the additional capacity will ensure that DHF can take an advisory and advocacy role for HIA across government. Ongoing capacity building in HIA will ensure that DHF staff are able to contribute to HIAs and are able to review and assess HIAs submitted by proponents.3.4. Western AustraliaHIA in Western Australia is progressing through both development approvals processes and consideration of health impacts within Government policy.The resources sector is stimulating rapid growth across the state and the need for greater collaboration amongst sectors to minimise adverse impacts and delays to development. Strategies have been established that include assessments of health impacts during planning stages of new developments within integrated assessment processes. These strategies include:• Recognition of the need for integrated approaches for approvals of resource projects under the State Development Portfolio;• Improved communication with the Environmental ProtectionAuthority;
