Disk Array: Arrangement of several disks that gives abstraction of a single, large disk.
Goals: Increase performance and reliability of the resulting storage system.
Two main techniques:
Performance is increased through data striping: the data is segmented into equal-size partitions that are distributed over multiple disks; size of a partition is called the striping unit.
Reliability is improved through redundancy: More disks  more failures, redundant information is maintained. Redundant information allows reconstruction of data if a disk fails.
RAID: a combination of data striping and redundancy.

Disk Array: Bố trí một số đĩa cho phép trừu tượng của một đơn, đĩa lớn.
Mục tiêu: Tăng hiệu suất và độ tin cậy của hệ thống lưu trữ kết quả.
Hai kỹ thuật chính:
Hiệu suất được tăng lên thông qua dữ liệu phân chia: các dữ liệu được tách ra thành các phân vùng bằng nhau kích thước đó được phân phối trên nhiều đĩa; kích thước của một phân vùng được gọi là đơn vị phân chia.
Độ bền được cải thiện thông qua dự phòng: More đĩa  thất bại nhiều hơn, thông tin dự phòng được duy trì. Thông tin dự phòng cho phép xây dựng lại dữ liệu nếu một đĩa bị lỗi.
RAID: một sự kết hợp của phân chia dữ liệu và dự phòng.
