How residents perceive historical social and environment change is closely entwined withthe factors that have shaped those changes and which have resulted in their configurationin the present (Lowenthal, 1985). The Khumbu region of Nepal emerged on the globalscene in the 1950s and has been a well-known trekking tourism destination since the1960s.
