The backscattered beam will undergo divergence as well as attenuation in its way to the detector. Therefore the
intensity will undergoes double attenuation. If the geometry if fixed, the backscattered radiation will show a wide
energy spectrum as shown in the Fig. 1A. The count rate in the detector is expected to change with thickness
