I have a lot of beauty makeup experience but I want to learn more advanced Special Effects & Movie makeup. I have been looking at different schools and narrowed it down to two: Cinema & MUD. Have any of you been to either Cinema or MUD? I went and visited both campuses and actually liked Cinema better. Please let me know what your experiences were at those schools like teachers, price, quality of kit, job resources etc. (Please comments only on MUD & Cinema I chose them for location and fact that they accept the GI Bill) Thanks! :)

What did you like better about Cinema? I'm starting at MUD soon, so I would like to know which is better.

I'm a graduate of Cinema Makeup School and I am forever grateful for the Knowledge I obtained while a student there. I myself had also narrowed it down to MUD and Cinema, I chose Cinema because their SFX and Character courses very advanced and definitely helpful for both beginners and professionals. All of the instructors are working professionals in the industry and have been for ten years or more so learning from them is a huge bonus. I also really liked that you can still use the facility after graduation. Every time im hired for an FX job, I can come to the school to sculpt, mold, fun foam, and bake all of my pieces here. All I have to do is bring my own materials. Even after i've graduated, I have found that all of the instuctors are still happy and willing to help me along the way so I'm still constatly learning. I did the Master makeup course which consist of SFX, Prosthetics, Character, Beauty, and High Fashion. I can honestly say that with having zero experience with makeup prior to starting school here, I've never had a moment that I didnt feel confident walking on to set to do makeup. They really over prepare you to be an artist in this industry. I hope this was helpful! Take care :)

Awesome Katherine! That is what I wanted to hear. I got that impression when I was there :)

Giana, I went to MUD and the classrooms were not well ventilated and I just felt like it wasnt somewhere I could see my self spending everyday for several months being creative. I didnt feel like they were excited or even prepared for my previously scheduled school tour. They basically handed me a folder and walked me around the school, it took 5 mins. Cinema's classrooms inspired creativity and they had a presentation for prospective students and had me meet with the director and he gave me advice on courses etc. Overall I just felt like Cinema was a more passionate school, they love makeup & makeup artists and it totally showed. :)

My makeup artistry teacher went to mud for it and she really liked it. That's about all I got lol
