Thermodynamic Foehn: Moist air is lifted
over a mountain barrier. As the moist
air rises, it cools. The cooling of the air
ultimately results in condensation and
precipitation. The precipitation removes
moisture from the air mass and the
latent heat of condensation raises the
temperature of the air. The drier air is
then warmed further as it descends the
lee slopes due to compression.
