Concept of scale in Chapter 1). Systems tracts are interpreted based on stratal stacking patterns, position
within the sequence and types of bounding surfaces,
and are assigned particular positions along an inferred
curve of base-level changes at the shoreline (Fig. 4.6).

from the earlier work of Exxon scientists (Vail, 1987;
Posamentier et al., 1988; Posamentier and Vail, 1988;
Van Wagoner et al., 1988, 1990) with the subsequent
contributions of Galloway (1989), Hunt and Tucker

1995), Posamentier and James (1993), Posamentier and
