Nehemiah Medical and Charitable Mission was founded by Rev. Vinh N. Le, MD in 1997 and was originally called the "Nehemiah Medical Project for Vietnam" (NMPFV) After visiting Vietnam, Rev. Vinh N. Le, MD went back to America determined to use his medical skill to care for people in Vietnam, his homeland. Together with the support of Americans, Canadians, and Vietnamese churches, health care providers, and volunteers, the newly established NMPFV team collected medical equipment and medication to send to local hospitals in Vietnam throughout the year. For 12 years, NMPFV also sent a medical mission team twice a year to provide medical and dental care to rural communities in Vietnam. In 2009, Rev. Vinh N. Le, MD passed the baton to Rev. Christian T. Van, MD, who changed the organization's name from "Nehemiah Medical Project to Vietnam" to "Nehemiah Medical and Charitable Mission" in an effort to expand the mission's vision and purpose to include both medical and humanitarian services and to serve the not only the people of Vietnam, but of Cambodia and potentially other Southeast Asian countries as well. Since then, NMCM has become more involved with supporting humanitarian projects, such as providing financial support to local orphanages and churches, opening schools to teach children English, reading, writing, and math, supporting clean water projects in Cambodia, and preaching the gospel in Cambodia. Additionally, NMCM has continued its work in providing medical and dental care. Throughout the year, NMCM continues to collect medical equipment and medication to send to the healthcare team in Vietnam, who provides medical care to the poor once a month. Every summer, NMCM gathers a team of doctors, nurses, medical students, pharmacists, dentists, musicians, ministers, and volunteers around the world to participate in a two week medical mission trip to serve the people living along the Me Kong River in Cambodia and those in rural Vietnam. While there, NMCM actively searches for new ministries to support. In 2010, NMCM became involved with donating wheelchairs to the disabled, supporting a church ministry for the blind, and opening a school for children to learn English in Hoi Chi Minh City. In 2011, NMCM teamed up with Ban Hat Co Doc, a Vietnamese Christian music group, to preach the gospel to the Cambodian people. In 2012, NMCM began to support the clean water projects in Cambodia and opened the Marti Scott Methodist Healing Center, a free medical clinic in Hoi Chi Minh City where local doctors gather once a week to provide free healthcare to the poor. As we look to the future, we are excited for what God has in store and how God will lead us to do God's work and love God's people.
