“The numbers bear out that this is not a significant problem,” says Paul Armentano, deputy director for the National Organization for the Reform of Marijuana Laws (NORML), via phone. Armentano doesn’t think that this issue isn’t worth paying attention to, but he notes that “far more children are hospitalized for the inadvertent ingestion of those laundry detergent pods than for cannabis ingestion.”Between 2012 and 2013, more than 17,000 children under 6 years old nationwide were injured due to ingestion of the candy-colored detergent packets.
