Activity No 4Case study 2You are currently employed with a home care support service provider and your supervisor has instructed you to add a new care recipient ‘Mr. Borelli’ to your current job listMr Borelli was recently assessed by ACAT,to identify and acknowledge Mr Borelli’s strengths and self-care capacity. Before leaving the office you read Mr. Borelli’s care plan and note that it states he is a very independent man, who is finding meeting his activities of living becoming increasingly challenging It is also noted that Mr. Borelli has meals delivered to his home 3 days per week, utilises frozen meals for the other four days, is able to operate the microwave independently ‘ likes to sort his own laundry but is unable to turn the washing machine on due to arthritis in his hands, which has limited his fine motor skillsIt states in Mr. Borelli’s care plan that the care support workers are required to assist Mr. Borelli to meet his activities of living by opening the frozen packed meals ready for Mr. Borelli to place in microwave later in the evening, turn and set the washing machine dial ready so Mr. Borelli only has to push the button in to complete his washing independently, as well as vacuuming and washing the bathroom and laundry floors1/When assisting a care recipient in a situation like Mr. Borelli who is very independent, how can you, as the care support worker, maintain his independence whilst assisting him to meet his activities of living, without talking full control?…………………………………………………………………………………………….
2/ Mr Borelli likes to tell the care support workers exactly how he likes tasks to be completed, having had a set routine for many years, you feel that it is very time consuming to have to do the set tasks this way and feel it would be quicker and more efficient to complete them in your own way
A/how would, or should you, make a compromise in this situation?
……………………………………………………………………………………….
B/Does Mr. Borelli have the right to direct how care is to be provided to him?
C/Provide your reasons why you feel he has, or has not, this right?

3/ Mr. Borelli is adamant that today you are to move the heavy lounge chairs and vacuum under them. Your work place WHS policy states ‘at no time are the care support workers to move heavy furnishings’. How are you going to resolve this issue without upsetting Mr Borelli further?
…………………………………………………………………………………
4/Mr. Borelli’s family have purchased him a medical alert system as they are concerned for his safety and Mr Borelli is having difficultly remembering how it works. Would assisting Mr Borelli to understand the working of this device be part of your job role and appropriate for you to provide?
