Seeking a highly qualified Doctor of Oriental Medicine to join an exciting and innovative enterprise, The University of New Mexico's Center for Life. The Center is a prevention and wellness based health care facility which focuses on integrative and inter-cultural health care for New Mexicans. Collaborates with physicians trained in integrative medicine and wotkk with other CAM providers in a practice that has a terrific community reputation. The practice partners with patients to improve their health with an emphasis on nutrition, lifestyle interventions, supplements, herbs and botanicals, wellness, and mind-body medicine along with conventional medicine. The position will be working at two different locations and will involve some evening and Saturday hours.

SUMMARY
Under general supervision, provides medical assessment and treatment services, using established Oriental Medicine protocols, procedures, and techniques, to specified non-emergency out-patient and in-patient population. Provides professional consultation and advice to faculty, staff, patients, and other health care providers as a highly specialized practitioner.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
• Provides and manages direct patient care, including physical examinations, evaluations, assessments, diagnoses, and specialized oriental medicine procedures and treatments for a specified patient population.
• Prescribes herbal and other medications, and treatment regimens as appropriate to assessed medical conditions.
• Provides the prescription and administration of devices, restricted devices, and prescriptive devices as defined in the New Mexico Drug, Device and Cosmetic Act.
• Performs procedures of acupuncture and other related procedures.
• Performs physical medicine modalities, procedures, and devices.
• Performs therapeutic and qi exercises, breathing techniques, meditation, and the use of biofeedback devices that utilize heat, cold, color, light, lasers, sound, vibration, pressure, magnetism, electricity, electromagnetic energy and other therapeutic means.
• Provides counseling and education regarding physical, emotional, and spiritual balance in lifestyle.
• Consults with primary care physicians, mental health therapists, and other heath care providers in individual cases, as appropriate.
• Refers patients to specialists and to relevant patient care components as appropriate.
• Obtains patient histories and develops patient care charts.
• As appropriate to the position, participates in specified health promotion, education and/or prevention programs.
• Provides health education to students, families, and/or community health practitioners and groups, within area of specialty.
• Enhances professional growth and development through participation in educational programs, current literature, in-service meetings, and workshops.
• May perform clinical research related to specific operations.
• May participate in planning programs and in developing specific health policies and procedures.
• Follows established departmental policies, procedures, and objectives, continuous quality improvement objectives, and safety, environmental, and/or infection control standards.
• Provides additional services permitted by the New Mexico Board of Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine (NMBAOM).
• Performs miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned.
MINIMUM JOB REQUIREMENTS
Master's degree in Oriental Medicine with at least 3 years of directly related post-licensure experience. DOM License, New Mexico Board of Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine. NCCAOM certifications in Acupuncture and Chinese Herbology/Oriental Medicine. CPR Certification or must obtain within 30 calendar days from hire date.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES REQUIRED

• Advanced and in-depth knowledge of acupuncture and associated oriental medicine principles, methods, procedures, and techniques.
• Knowledge of community medical diagnostic and patient care services in area of medical expertise.
• Knowledge of patient care charts and patient histories.
• Knowledge of patient care protocols, procedures, regulations, and standards.
• Ability to work both independently and in a team environment.
• Ability to investigate and analyze information and draw conclusions.
• Advanced, current knowledge of herbal medications and drugs and their indications, contraindications, dosing, side effects, and proper administration.
• Knowledge of current principles, methods and procedures for the delivery of medical evaluation, diagnosis and treatment in area of expertise.
• Ability to develop and present educational programs and/or workshops.
• Effective verbal and written communication skills.

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT
• UNM will provide Hepatitis vaccination, candidate may decline vaccination through declination form or may provide record of vaccination from previous employer.
• Must be credentialed per UNM HSC policies and procedures if billing for services under Medicare/Medicaid.
• Must be employment eligible as verified by the U.S. Dept. of Health and Human Services Office of Inspector General (OIG) and the Government Services Administration (GSA).
• TB screening required annually or Non-Symptom endorsement or Chest X-ray.
• Successful candidate must submit to post-offer, pre-employment physical examination and medical history check.
• Must provide proof of varicella immunity or obtain vaccinations within 90 days of employment.
• NCCAOM certifications must be renewed before expiration date every 4 years.
• Must pass a pre-employment criminal background check.
• Fingerprinting, and subsequent clearance, is required for this position.
• Basic life support (BLS) Certification.
WORKING CONDITIONS AND PHYSICAL EFFORT
• Work is performed in an interior medical/clinical environment.
• Will work with blood or blood-borne pathogens and will require OSHA training.
• Occasional risk exposure to unusual elements such as toxic chemicals, bio-hazardous materials requiring awareness of safety precautions. May include the use of protective equipment.
• Physical Demand requirements are in excess of those for Light Work.
• Moderate physical activity. Requires exerting 20 to 50 pounds of force occasionally, 10 to 25 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects.
