To encourage pretend play in young children and, particularly, with intellectual disabilityseems important because it is a preferential context, favourable to the development ofcompetencies in different developmental area (linguistic, cognitive, social, emotional), that arethemselves favourable to self-regulation. This kind of amusing and familiar environment seemsto improve learning (Bjorklund, 1978) and to allow children to express their abilities whatever isbest. Self-regulation development is necessary for a successful involvement in a lot of activities.Preschool period is the one during which self-regulation abilities really develop andconsequently, seems the right moment to stimulate this growth.
