and south aerials. As illustrated in Figure 2 below, the resulting figure-of eight azimuthal gain
pattern consists of circular lobes with maximum sensitivity to the north and south and nulls to
the east and west. This figure-of-eight gain pattern is obtained by applying the N and S aerial
voltages to a differencing network that vectorially subtracts them (N-S) to produce what will
ultimately become the “Y-axis” voltage
