The microhelices obtained easily by dialysis of intralutoid serum (B serum) consist of a
basic protein with a molecular weight of 22,000 and an acid assembling protein with a
molecular weight of approximately 160,000. These two proteins can reconstitute the microhelices when they are exposed to NaCl and then dialyzed. A third protein insolubilized
by the dialysis of B serum was thought to be initially responsible for the formation of clusters
of microhelices.82 8 4 1 9 3 The quantity of microhelices varies considerably according to the
clonal origin of the latex.
