World Steel News 16.10.2014
Although some Ukrainian plate suppliers have returned to the Turkish market already, their Chinese counterparts have sold substantial volumes there owing to substantial discounts. Local material also enjoys robust demand mostly among Turkish trade companies.
Turkish consumers, mostly shipbuilders, have become interested in Chinese material after its sellers granted big discounts. After bargaining prices $30/t down as compared to end-September, they booked around 10,000-15,000 t of plate shipped in November at $530-535/t CFR base.
Of Ukrainian suppliers, only Ilyich Steel is present in the Turkish market. It offers plate shipped in December at $590/t CFR Marmara, like two weeks ago. Since end-September, the mill sold around 5,000 t of grade A material at $600/t CFR, including a surcharge of around $10/t. “Although Alchevsk Steel Works is still away, Metinvest International S.A. has been unable to ramp up sales. Commercial segment is lacklustre, while aggregate demand from shipbuilders stays unchanged. The Chinese covered a part of the volume due to low prices,” one major trader told Metal Expert.
Turkey's Erdemir is sill offering at $630-635/t CFR Diliskelesi without 18% VAT. The supplier is reportedly ready to grant small discounts while signing deals for medium tonnages.
