Due date: Thurs 9th June, 9:30 Topic : Brain Injury Assessment 3 – Final report (3000 words – excluding reference list) Please note this paper will be assessed according to the level of your degree – undergraduate students must demonstrate ‘broad and coherent theoretical knowledge’ and postgraduate students ‘advanced and integrated theoretical knowledge, demonstrating skills in critical analysis of the evidence. Please refer to the Topic Objectives on page 3-4.
Part A(approx. 1000 words): Describe the effects of an ABI on a specific cognitive, communication or behavioural ability (eg working memory, attention, depression, anxiety, Wernicke’s aphasia, adynamia) –Tip: don’t make this too broad.Part B(approx. 2000 words):Select, describe and evaluate one strategy or intervention which could be used to facilitate learning and effective rehabilitation for your selected ability:  How should it be delivered?  What are its uses and limitations?  How can outcomes be measured? Search for studies through PsycBITE and other databases: are there any systematic reviews on this intervention? How high is the level of evidence available? Refer to specific results of research studies which examine the impact of this intervention with people with ABI. Refer to a range of case examples (brief descriptions of individuals) known to you or drawn from the literature to accompany and illustrate the issues and strategies you describe. Please note:  Remember to include an introduction and conclusion for the full paper.  Ensure all statements are supported by references to the text book, readings and wider literature; a minimum of 12 references for undergrads and 15 references for postgrads are expected for this assessment.Ensure reliable sources of evidence are referenced (eg peer-reviewed published journal articles), rather than internet sources/magazines/opinion etc.  When marking this assignment evaluation will take account of a) the level of evidence provided to support statements, and b) the understanding demonstrated by the student of the conditions which facilitate learning and rehabilitation for chosen case examples.Final report grades will be returned 3 weeks after submission.
