In order to assess the evolution of salinity, pilot projects in areas delimited byrivers flowing into the river Cauca were initiated. The study shows that of the 41 200ha monitored, 20 830 ha still have some degree of salinity. According to the spatialand temporal assessment of soil salinity in the Cauca River valley, the process ofsalinization of the sector in general has remained constant, as much in the affected areasand also in the degree of salinity during the period of study. Some local areas showeda slight decrease in saline condition during the study period. It has been found that theregion is very sensitive to climate variation events, such as those associated with the ElNiño Southern Oscillation (ENSO), which suggests the sensitivity of the region to achange of climate. Among the environmental effects for the study area there is expectedto be an impact on soil moisture balance. Several recommendations are given for boththe monitoring process of salinization and to promote extension programmess foradaptability to climate change impacts
