Mercedes-AMG introduces V12-powered S65 Cabriolet

Mercedes-AMG has introduced the 2017 S65 Cabriolet, a V12-powered four-seater that slots at the very top of the S-Class Cabriolet lineup.
Visually, the S65 Cabriolet stands out from the less powerful S63 thanks to a new grille with mesh inserts, an extra dose of chrome trim on the lower bumper, and a new rear bumper with four exhaust tips and a wide air diffuser. S65-specific 20-inch forged wheels and a sprinkling of "V12 Biturbo" emblems round out the list of major exterior updates.

The cloth soft top is offered in black, dark blue, beige, and dark red. It can be opened or closed at the push of a button in 17 seconds at speeds of up to 31 mph.

The Cabriolet is powered by a hand-built 6.0-liter V12 engine that uses a pair of turbochargers to churn out 621 horsepower from 4,800 to 5,400 rpm and 738 lb-ft. of torque from 2,300 to 4,300 rpm. It reaches 62 mph from a stop in 4.1 seconds and goes on to a top speed that's electronically limited to 155 mph. However, buyers who need to go even faster can order the S65 with an AMG Driver's Package that allows the S65 to reach an Autobahn-ready top speed of 186 mph.

The big-bore 12-cylinder spins the rear wheels via a seven-speed automatic transmission controlled by steering wheel-mounted shift paddles. A standard start/stop system keeps fuel mileage in check.

In Germany, the 2017 Mercedes-AMG S65 Cabriolet is scheduled to go on sale next April, and the first deliveries are scheduled for the following May. Pricing information will be published closer to its on-sale date.
