As soon as they started moving, though, Camila was quickly distracted by looking out the window.Even though Lauren could look out the window at the tall palm trees, she would much rather look at Camila. The small girl viewed everything with a sense of awe and bewilderment that Lauren had never seen on anyone else. Maybe she was impartial because she was in love, but there was just something about Camila that made her so captivating.It didn’t take them long to get to their parents house. Once they pulled up in front of the small brick building, it was already dark out. Lauren paid the driver and thanked him, jogging around the car to open Camila’s door for her.They got their bags. Well, Lauren got their bags. By the time she had set both suitcases on the sidewalk and given the taxi driver the ‘all clear’, Camila was already running towards the door.Laughing softly to herself, Lauren quickly grabbed both suitcases and struggled to pull them up the walkway. She set them both at the bottom of the steps and jogged up to grab Camila’s hand. The small girl had already rung the doorbell more times than necessary.Lauren grinned when she heard tiny footsteps approaching the door. Moment’s later, the door was thrown open. A small blonde with wet hair and purple pajamas stared up at them in shock.“Lauren?Cameeeela?” Maggie tilted her head to the side.“Hi,” Camila giggled. “It is us.”Squealing excitedly, Maggie jumped forwards and wrapped them both into a huge huge. Lauren laughed, leaning down and kissing her sister’s forehead just as both of her parents appeared in the hallway.“Lauren?” her mother’s voice was laced with shock. She hurried over to them and pulled her daughter into a hug. “What are you doing here? Is something wrong?”“No, mom, everything’s fine,” Lauren laughed, jogging back to pull the suitcases inside. “We actually… we just wanted to get away for a bit. I figured we’d pay you guys a visit.” She motioned to the suitcases beside them. “I was sort of hoping we could stay here… but we could always get a hotel if y-,”“Of course you can stay here,” her father interrupted, pulling her into a hug and then holding out his fist in Camila’s direction.“You remembered!” Camila’s face lit up and she bumped his fist, making an exploding noise. Lauren couldn’t help but laugh.“Chris is at practice and Taylor’s at her friend’s,” her mother explained, motioning for them to come inside. “I just wish you’d told us you were coming earlier… your father’s Aunt Sylvia passed away last week and her funeral is tomorrow.”Camila furrowed her eyebrows, glancing between Lauren and her mother. She padded forwards, tapping on Lauren’s shoulder. “What is a funeral?” she whispered, biting her lip.“A funeral… it’s like a celebration of someone’s life, when someon
