Power on demand increases the efficiency of electric vehicles. With HEVs and EVs, former belt-driven devices classified as auxiliary drives have been electrified and integrated into the power system to deliver power on demand. Typical auxiliary systems supplied from the high-voltage battery include air conditioning, electronic power steering, PTC Heater, oil pumps and cooling pumps. As power from the battery is expensive, the challenge is to use the electric power as efficiently as possible.
Designers are thus looking to optimize the power efficiency of all auxiliary system.
