Glutathione reductase (GR) catalyzes the reduction of glutathione

disulphide (GSSG) to glutathione (GSH) with NADPH as the reducing agent [11]

and is considered to be an essential antioxidant enzyme for the glutathione redox

cycle that ensures adequate levels of GSH necessary for the maintenance of

cells in a reduced state [12].
