Treat ment progress

After the separation of the molars, the patient was scheduled for placement of the KIDS.

The palatal and molar assemblies were bonded and cemented, respectively (Fig 8a).

Before the distalizing springs were tied in place, they were trial placed to check for soft tissue impingement.

After the initial distalization of approximately 2.5 mm, the springs were removed and reactivated by opening the mesial and distal helices, and the original 15-degree bend at the distal leg is regained by manipulating the occlusal helix.

Within 5 months, the maxillary molars were distalized into a superClass I relationship (Fig 8d to 8i).
