_ The Traditional Vietnamese Pharmaco-Medicine has a long history starting in the age of the Kinh Hung Vuong over 2,000 years ago._ The traditional Vietnamese Medicine evolved and was influenced each other with Traditional Chinese Medicine but also with distinct differences._ Vietnam is hot and humid tropical climate which provides for a rich range of medicinal plant species. According to the Vietnam Ministry of Health 1,300 medicinal plant species have been found in the country. As early as the 2nd century BC, Vietnamese used hundreds of plant species for medicinal purposes._ In addition, many of the courses of treatment and prevention have remained useful until the present day such as taking ginger as an anti-cold and flu treatment, anti-malaria plants such as Artermisia ( chi ngải, ngải cứu) and Thuong Xuan, tumeric(tinh chất nghệ) for stomach issues and chew betel , dye teeth to prevent tooth decay and gum disease,…_ The greatest physicians in the Traditional Vietnamese Medicine are Tue Tinh (14th century) and Hai Thuong Lang Ong Le Huu Trac (18th century). They are known as the “Saint” who are the medical founders of Vietnam’s Traditional Medicine. + Great physician Tue Tinh was born under the Tran Dynasty. He passed an state exam and got a doctor degree. He refused to work as a state mandarin but became a monk in a pagoda, preparing medicine and writing books. In China, he granted “ Great Physician and Zen Buddhist”. He was the first man to give the great idea of “ the Vietnamese is treated by Vietnamese medicines”. + Great physician Hai Thuong Lang Ong Le Huu Trac was the author of a great work about the Traditional Vietnamese Medicine known as the encyclopedia: “Medical origins with morality and skills” with 28 episodes in 66 volumes. On his 250th birthday, UNESCO has recognized and acknowledge him as a world’s cultural and well-known man for his great contribution to the development of traditional medicine and culture of the world.
