'Put the knife down': AFP officers storm home in Sydney's west in dramatic stand-off

July 02, 2015: A tense stand-off with a man, allegedly armed with a knife, in Sydney’s west has ended with his arrest.
Heavily armed police were forced to taser an alleged knifeman and throw “flashbang” stun grenades during a tense stand-off today in Sydney’s west.

Serpentine Street in Bossley Park spent much of the afternoon in lockdown as police descended on a suburban home.

During the stand-off police could be heard yelling “put the knife down” before moving in.



Australian Federal Police (AFP) snipers were also deployed to the neighbourhood.

Locals told 9NEWS they heard three loud bangs ring out as AFP officers stormed the two level property through the garage with flashbangs.

They eventually used a Taser stungun to subdue the 53-year-old inside.

Later he was escorted to a waiting ambulance.

AFP authorities were quick to assure locals the incident was not terrorism related.

"This incident is not related to any threat to national security, and there is no immediate danger to the safety of the community," an AFP spokesperson said.
