In North America the green cryoseston consists of Chlamydomonas
yellowstonensis, in Japan it is Cryocystis japonica, and in Antarctica — Chlorella
antarctica and Stichococcus bacillaris. Without doubt the cryoseston of the
world is not yet adequately known. However. Kol (1968) suggests that among
snow algae, there are species endemic to the Carpathians, the Alps, the
Caucasus, North and South America, Antarctica, Greenland and Japan.
